Qassim Date Harvest Season 2025
Prestigious culture of Saudi Arabia.
The 2nd of August marked the 1st opening date market season of Al Qaseem. the very moment i sign off from my office today, i had a call from one of my best friends from qaseem region abdullah, was very delighted and happy, and ask me if i could join him to the way of Dates market, he said my uncles and cousin brothers be all there i want to introduce you with them, its very deeply rich of culture we all sell our harvest with pride and honour and i was like ” yeah sure why not lets see what you guys have harvested over the past 7 months.
on the way before we reach the core market, the whole area was engulfed with saudi local peoples and pakistani exparts, saudi were the main sellers and pakistani peoples were helping them to unload the boxes and sacks, hmm intresting what a mix of culture, far away from the site of my eyes i hear a kind of a wispering it was not a song but one saudi guy was chanting something in arabic languge and i ask abdullah whats he singing about ? he said its kind of bidding they make there voices high while representing there cultivation to attract more vendores and buyeres. i also sited many Europeans it was strange they were happy like it was there own country i can still hear those noices, the smell of arabic traditional gahwa, and it was free just like that come and taste our dates and have sip of a gahwa, i mean i never thought for a scound they were selling these dates for money, i saw an old man he got his Nissan petrol parked and he was standing on top of it and attracting the buyers towords him ” i mean they sell the dates? No they represent the culture, me and Abdullah, walk a couple of yards ahead to buy maybe a few grams haha, and Abdullah was like no let us take different categories each category we made it a 300 grams with 5 different types of dates, the seller was nice he called him self Ayed al Mutairi who own the land in Qaseem but hes basically from the city of media woow.
The hype was at its height, just like the evening heat of the red desert. 7:30 pm the dawn was almost on its edge when i saw a wemen wearing a black burkha (hijaab) she was maybe in her 70s selling some sweets we bought few and walk towards abdullahs uncle, once reached we were greeted like i was a part of there family, the 3 cheek kisses, and nose touch, haha that was crazy, what a moment it was of my life.
Why Qaseem?

This year, Qassim is seeing, said the uncle of Abdullah. i cant speak or understand there language but thank god my friend abdullah was with me as a local guide, it drive me nuts when i hear the stories, for a moment it seems like i made a time travel, the smell of Gahwa and the colors of tent and a small young boy age approxmatly 14 years was serving us, i ask him his name he doesnt seem to understand my languge ” he said ana khalid” means i am khalid…well thank you khalid for your amazing hospitality i will remeber your gahwa and dates for the rest of my life, he went smiling, oh god what a country and what a peoples and what a care and hospitality,
Cultural Significance of Dates in this beautiful country

And for local communities, they’re a source of pride and livelihood, and i witness that for the first time in my life, No i don’t wanna go back to my country now 😉 The date industry is also a powerhouse of the Saudi economy. According to the uncle of Abdullah, the dates production contributes over SAR 2 billion annually to the economy. Qassim alone exports to more than 70 countries, with growing demand in health-conscious markets due to dates’ natural sugar, fibre, and antioxidant-rich profile.
When you plan your visit.
i would strongly recommend you visit Qaseem at least once in your lifetime, but make sure it’s a date season around you will have the real glimpse of Saudi Arabia, just like it was in 1400. The warmth of people and the way you’ll be welcomed will make you fall in love with this country. I feel I was the lucky one to answer the call from Abdullah after my work despite being tired from the work during the entire busy day, but on the return, I feel like I just got started, maybe the dates do their magic or maybe the faces I saw along the journey.
